US President Donald Trump has arrived in Beijing, China’s capital, for two days of high-stakes talks with President Xi Jinping as the world’s two largest economies attempt to thaw an icy trade relationship.
It is the first visit to China by a sitting US president in almost nine years and Trump’s second trip to the country since November 2017.
Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday and was received by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng.
The US president and Jinping are expected to discuss a wide range of topics of global concerns, including trade, Taiwan, and the war in Iran.
Some US officials present on the trip include Marco Rubio, secretary of state; Pete Hegseth, defence secretary; and Scott Bessent, treasury secretary.
There are also a dozen high-profile business leaders, including Apple’s Tim Cook, Tesla chief executive officer (CEO) Elon Musk, Boeing’s Kelly Ortberg, and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang.
