In line INEC Guildlines the Bayelsa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, (ADC), has elected a 33-member executive by consensus to steer the party for the next four years.
The congress, held over the weekend at the party’s Secretariat, produced Johnny Tovie Rerek as State Chairman, Oyintonye G. Omukago as Deputy Chairman, and Victor Eritei as State Secretary. All 33 positions were unopposed.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman Rerek thanked members for their confidence and took a direct shot at President Bola Tinubu.
“Nigeria is bedeviled with serious issues. It takes the strong and the bold to correct the anomalies,” Rerek said.
“They call him Jagaban, the master strategist. But he is not the super strategist. The ADC has better strategies to take him out as president.”
Rerek promised that his leadership would unveil ADC’s policies and political roadmap “in a couple of days” to begin the march toward 2027.
He insisted the ADC is “strategically positioned to not only take over power, but to use the power for the benefit of the people.”
He also assured that ADC members would win seats in upcoming state and national assembly elections.
Tamkivie Eseimo, Chairman of the State Congress Planning Committee, said the consensus model was adopted to avoid rancor and unite all interests.
“We have one candidate for each position. No opposition exists,” Eseimo explained. “By implication, we are upholding the party’s constitution, which allows consensus in lieu of elections.”
He called on members to protect the party’s image and support its 2027 ambition: “ADC will take the lead when we consider the leadership of our great country, Nigeria.”
